Item: Injector: open or short circuit detected.

Diagnostic Code No. 36;
Actuation: Actuates front cylinder injector five times at one-second intervals. Illuminates the engine trouble
warning light.
Procedure: Check that front cylinder injector is actuated five times by listening for the operating sound.

Identify the malfunctioning
injector. |
Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code Nos. 36, 37). Identify the injector that does not produce an operating sound. Perform the following procedures for the defective injector. |

Connection of front cylinder
injector and/or rear cylinder injector coupler. Check the locking condition of the coupler. Disconnect the coupler and check the pins (bent or broken terminals and locking condition of the pins). |
Improperly connected.
Connect the coupler securely or replace the wire harness. |
Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code Nos. 36, 37) If No operating sound is heard, then go to item 3. If however, the operating sound is heard, go to item 7. |

Defective injector front,
and/or rear injector. |
Measure the injector resistance.
Replace if out of specification. |
Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code Nos. 36, 37) If No operating sound is heard, then go to item 4. If however, the operating sound is heard, go to item 7. |

Connection of ECU coupler.
Check the locking condition of the coupler. Disconnect the coupler and check the pins (bent or broken terminals and locking condition of the pins). |

Open or short circuit.
Replace the wire harness. Between injector coupler and ECU coupler. Front cylinder injector. (Gray-Gray) Rear cylinder injector. (Green-Green) Between injector coupler and relay unit coupler. Front cylinder (White-Red/Blue) Rear cylinder (White-Red/Blue) |
Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code Nos. 36, 37) If No operating sound is heard, then go to item 6. If however, the operating sound is heard, go to item 7. |

Malfunction in ECU.

Replace the ECU.

Delete the fault code.
|
Start the engine and let it idle
for approximately 5 seconds. Check that the fault code number is not displayed. |
