Fault Code No.: 42-1     Diagnostic Code No.: 07

Item: Speed sensor: no normal signals are received from the speed sensor.

Fail-Safe System: Able to start engine | Able to Drive Vehicle

Indicated: Vehicle speed pulse
                  0-999

Procedure: Check that the number increases when the rear wheel is rotated.

                  The number is cumulative and does not reset each time the wheel is stopped.

Locate the malfunction.
Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code No. 07).

Rotate the rear wheel by
hand and check that the indicated value increases.

Execute the diagnostic
mode. (Code No. 21).

When the transmission is in neutral: "ON".

When the transmission is in gear with the clutch lever released: "OFF".

When the transmission is in gear with the clutch lever squeezed and the sidestand retracted: "ON"
If the value does not increase, then go to item 2.

If it is an Incorrect indication, go to item 2 in Fault Code No. 42-2 for the neutral switch.

If it is an Incorrect indication, go to item 2 in
Fault Code No. 42-3 for the clutch switch.

Connection of speed sensor
coupler.

Check the locking condition
of the coupler.

Disconnect the coupler and
check the pins (bent or broken terminals and locking
condition of the pins).

Improperly connected.

Connect the coupler securely or replace the wire harness.
Execute the diagnostic mode. (Code No. 07).

Rotate the rear wheel by hand and check that the indicated value increases.

If the value increases, go to
item 6 and delete the fault
code.

If however, the value does not increase, then go to item 3.

Connection of ECU coupler.

Check the locking condition
of the coupler.

Disconnect the coupler and
check the pins (bent or broken terminals and locking
condition of the pins).
Improperly connected.

Connect the coupler securely or replace the wire harness.

Execute the diagnostic mode. (Code No. 07).

Rotate the rear wheel by hand and check that the indicated value increases.

If the value increases, go to
item 6 and delete the fault
code.

If however, the value does not increase, then go to item 4.

Wire harness continuity.
Open or short circuit.

Replace the wire harness.

Between speed sensor coupler and turn signal relay coupler.
(White/Yellow-White/Yellow)

Between turn signal relay
coupler and ECU coupler.
(White/Yellow-White/Yellow)

Between speed sensor coupler and joint coupler.
(Blue-Blue
Black/Blue-Black/Blue)

Between joint coupler and
ECU coupler.
(Blue-Blue
Black/Blue-Black/Blue)

Execute the diagnostic mode. (Code No. 07).

Rotate the rear wheel by hand and check that the indicated value increases.

If the value increases, go to
item 6 and delete the fault
code.

If however, the value does not increase, then go to item 5.

Malfunction in ECU.
Replace the ECU.

Delete the fault code.
Turn the main switch to "ON"
and then rotate the rear wheel by hand.

Start the engine, and input the vehicle speed signals by operating the vehicle at 20 to 30km/h(19mph).

Check that the fault code number is not displayed.
